	Nico Baumgarten was born in Kiel, Germany in 1981. He specialized in photography studying creative photography at the IDEP of Barcelona, Spain.
	His approach to photography has been strongly influenced by his studies of social geography of 3rd world countries and centers mainly on contemporary social issues. In the course of time his photographic production evolved from a reportage-approach into a more evoking and subjective language, nonetheless always oriented on a critical analysis of reality. Apart from realizing his personal works, he currently works as a freelance photographer for the german agency imagetrust and several international newspapers and magazines.


	The work “No gravity”, realized in a brazilian favela has been showed in several seminars throughout Germany and has been exhibited at IDEP in Barcelona, Spain.
	The reportage “Blocking the G8” about the protest movement against the the G8 in 2007 in Germany has been awarded with the “talent latent” grant and has been on itinerancy in Spain from 2008 to 2010.
	The series “urban eden” has been part of the international festival of photography “fotosintesi” in Piacenza, Italy.
	The work “the lives of a river” has been founded by and exhibited at the Bòlit, Centre d'Art Contemporani de Girona, Spain.
	“The time has come, get me out of here” is a work in progress about shrinking cities across europe. The example images are from the first part in Dessau, Germany.

	Nico Baumgarten è nato a Kiel, Germania, nel 1981. Si è specializzato in fotografia di autore all'IDEP di Barcellona sotto la guida di Manel Ubeda e Luca Pagliari.
	Il suo approccio alla fotografia subisce l'influenza della formazione in geografia antropologica dei Paesi in via di sviluppo, orientandosi sempre a tematiche di attualità sociale. La sua produzione si allarga nel tempo dal reportage sociale ad un linguaggio più soggettivo ed evocativo sempre orientato ad un'analisi critica del contemporaneo. A parte di realizzar i suoi lavori personali, attualmente lavora per l'agenzia tedesca imagetrust e diversi quotidiani e riviste internazionali.


	“Sem gravedade”, realizzato nella favela Jardim Gramacho di Rio de Janeiro, è stato oggetto di diversi seminari presso l'università di Tübingen (Germania) ed è stato esposto al IDEP di Barcellona.
	Il reportage “Blocking the G8” sul movimento di contestazione del G8 2007 in Germania, è stato selezionato per l'esposizione “Talent Latent” che ha avuto luogo in diverse località della Catalogna dal 2008 al 2010.
	La serie “urban eden” è stato in mostra all'interno di “fotosintesi 2010”, festival internazionale della fotografia a Piacenza, Italia.
	Il lavoro “le vite di un fiume” e stato finanziato dal Centro di Arte Contemporaneo di Girona, dove è attualmente in mostra.

	Nico Baumgarten nació en Kiel, Alemania en 1981. Se ha especializado en fotografía de autor en el IDEP de Barcelona, guiado por Manel Úbeda y Luca Pagliari.
	Su acercamiento a la fotografía está marcado por su formación en geografía social de países en vías de desarrollo y trata sobretodo de temáticas de actualidad social. Con el pasar del tiempo su producción se va transformando del reportaje social a un lenguaje más subjetivo e evocativo siempre orientado hacia un análisis critico de la contemporaneidad. Además de desarollar sus proyectos personales, actualmente trabaja para la agencia alemana imagetrust y diferentes periodicos y revistas internacionales.


	“Sem gravedade”, realizado en la favela Jardim Gramacho de Rio de Janeiro ha sido objeto de diferentes seminarios en la Universidad de Tübingen (Alemania) y ha sido expuesto en el IDEP en Barcelona.
	El reportaje “Bloqueo al G8” sobre el movimiento de contestación de la cumbre de los G8 en el 2007 en Alemania ha sido seleccionado para la exposición “Talent Latent” e itineró por diferentes ciudades de Cataluña del 2008 al 2010.
	La serie “urban eden” se ha expuesto en el marco del festival internacional de fotografía fotosintesi 2010 en Piacenza, Italia.
	El trabajo “las vidas de un río” ha sido financiado por el Bòlit de Girona, donde está expuesto como parte de la exposición “paisajes?”

Biografie


	Nico Baumgarten wurde 1981 in Kiel geboren und hat sich am IDEP in Barcelona unter der Leitung von Manel Úbeda und Luca Pagliari auf Autorenfotografie spezialisiert.
	Sein Zugang zur Fotografie ist durch seine Ausbildung in Geografie der Entwicklungsländer an der Universität Tübingen geprägt und beschäftigt sich vor Allem mit aktuellen sozialen Themen. Im Verlauf der Zeit hat sich sein fotografisches Werk von der sozialen Reportage entfernt und einer subjektiveren und sinnlicheren Bildsprache zugewandt, die sich jedoch stets an einer kritischen Analyse der Gegenwart orientiert. Er ist - neben der Realisierung von persönlichen Arbeiten - für die Agentur imagetrust und verschiedene internationale Zeitungen und Magazine tätig.


	„Schwerelos“, eine in der Favela Jardim Gramacho bei Rio de Janeiro entstandene Arbeit, war Gegenstand verschiedener Vorträge, unter Anderem an der Universität Tübingen, und wurde zudem am IDEP in Barcelona ausgestellt sowie in verschiedenen Zeitungen und Zeitschriften veröffentlicht.
	Die Reportage „Blockade der G8“ über die Widerstandsbewegung gegen den G8-Gipfel 2007 in Heiligendamm wurde für die Ausstellung „talent latent“ ausgewählt und von 2008 bis 2010 in verschiedenen Städten Kataloniens ausgestellt.
	Die Serie „urban eden“ wurde 2010 im Rahmen des internationalen Fotofestivals fotosintesi in Piacenza, Italien, ausgestellt.
	Die Arbeit „Die Leben eines Flusses“ wurde vom Bòlit Girona finanziert, wo sie bis Ende August als Teil der Ausstellung „paisajes?“ zu sehen ist.
	„Es ist so weit, holt mich hier raus“ ist der erste Teil einer Dokumentation verschiedenster europäischer Städte, die einen Schrumpfungsprozess durchlaufen. Die hier zu sehenden Bilder sind aus der Stadt Dessau.
